rough itinerary: 2018 as an example

Point of entry is the bustling city of Delhi with its imposing forts, tree lined avenues, and beautiful architecture. Spend a day or two there, doing the touristy bits in an unconventional way. With time in between to dine and relax....
We travel onwards to Agra, to see the symbol of eternal love, the Taj Mahal.
Then off the beaten track to far flung forts and extravagant noble houses in central India. With its colourful markets and peaceful street life. Hopefully an encounter of the striped kind in the tiger reserve..
We visit Varanasi, the city of lights and explore the spiritual India. An early morning boat ride on the Ganges and the mesmerising evening Arti (prayer service) are part of the programme.
Onto Kolkata to celebrate Durga Puja, the most famous festival in West Bengal. Carnival time, Indian-style.
We then take the road untravelled - to the state of of Odisha and meet the aborigines of India. We relax and live life on the slow lane. Our last destination is Mumbai, the city that never sleeps. A visit to the Dharavi slums is an eye-opener for all. We'll have time for some last minute shopping, or yet another visit to the beauty parlour, and some more sightseeing before our journey back to Switzerland.
